Lawyers currently representing famous tennis player Venus Williams have now obtained an emergency protective order for the civil lawsuit that was filed against her for the allegedly fatal car crash that police claim was, in fact, her fault, according to PEOPLE.

The order was first filed and obtained just this past Wednesday, only after the victim’s family made a request to inspect and download all data from the vehicle that the victim, passenger Jerome Barson, 78, was riding in on the night that the accident occurred.

His car, as well as Williams’ SUV, unfortunately collided with one another on June 9th.

A Palm Beach County judge has since approved the order, which will delay any collection of data, according to documents obtained by PEOPLE.

On that fateful night, Barson was sitting on the passenger side of his Hyundai Accent while his wife drove. According to Linda Barson, she was driving through the intersection on a green light when Williams’ SUV cut her off, causing Barson to crash into her, according to the filed police report.

However, in that exact same report, the famous sports player told police that she’d entered into the intersection on a green light, however, because there was so much traffic, she’d ended up at the intersection as the light soon turned red.

The report showed that Williams, 37, was, in fact, driving only 5 mph when the crash took place. The report also alleges that Williams “is at fault for violating the right of way of” Mrs. Barson.

Mr. Barson was rushed to a local hospital and admitted into the ICU area, where he’d later passed away, weeks later, on June 22nd.

This order only comes several days after Barson’s daughter, Audrey Gassner-Dunayer, filed a wrongful death action suit against Williams. The police are currently conducting a traffic homicide investigation to look into the crash, according to the family’s attorney, Michael Steinger.

Police have since spoken out and confirmed that they are investigating the crash but would not comment on the nature of the investigation.
