Nina Simone talks about her first experience with racism as a child

Nina Simone doesn’t get the recognition she deserves when it comes using her artistry to combat racism and injustice.  She sacrificed her whole career to bring attention to the blatant discrimination Black people were suffering from when she herself was becoming a popular musician.  And despite losing fans along the way, she never backed down.

In this brief video clip, Simone discusses her experience with racism and how she was oblivious to it until she gave a concert when she was twelve years old.

She talks about her other experiences as well and it’s quite sad, because Black people are still fighting.
