The son of iconic and late boxer Muhammad Ali was recently detained at a Florida International airport after immigration officials claimed that he had an “Arabic-sounding name,” according to a family lawyer.

Muhammad Ali Jr, 44, as well as his mother, Khalilah Camacho-Ali, which is the second wife of the great champion, were both arriving to the Fort Lauderdale-Hollywood International Airport on February 7th after the two of them had just returned from giving a public speech in Jamaica for Black History Month.

Chris Mancini, their lawyer, says that Camacho-Ali wasn’t detained because she was able to show officials a picture that she’d had with her ex-husband, however Jr. wasn’t so lucky. He was allegedly held for nearly two hours, while they’d repeatedly asked him “where did you get your name from?” and “are you a Muslim?”

Jr. was born in Philadelphia in 1972 and holds a legal U.S. passport.

Reached for comment via email Friday, a spokesman for U.S. Customs and Border Protection wrote, “Due to the restrictions of the Privacy Act, U.S. Customs and Border Protection cannot discuss individual travelers; however, all international travelers arriving in the U.S. are subject to CBP inspection.”

“To the Ali family, it’s crystal clear that this is directly linked to Mr. Trump’s efforts to ban Muslims from the United States.”

“To the Ali family, it’s crystal clear that this is directly linked to Mr. Trump’s efforts to ban Muslims from the United States,” Mancini said, referring to President Trump’s executive order signed Jan. 27 that instituted a ban for citizens of seven predominantly Muslim countries.
