Man Finally Sentenced After Taping Dog’s Mouth Shut

A South Carolina man has now been sentenced to five years in jail after he’d allegedly wrapped electrical tape around a dog’s mouth to keep her from barking.

Media outlets reported that William Dodson’s sentence on Friday would be representative to the state’s maximum for animal cruelty. But Dodson’s sentencing for mistreating Caitlyn won’t allow them to extend his prison time.

The 43-year-old Charleston man found himself being sentenced one day earlier in federal court to 15 years on a gun charge that stemmed from a traffic stop that took place months prior to Caitlyn being found back in the Spring of 2015.

Under a plea agreement, the two sentences will run simultaneously.

“I wish I could give you more,” Judge Markley Dennis told Dodson in court Friday.

Still, this sentence will send a clear message to anyone that takes part in animal cruelty, that it won’t be tolerated, according to Aldwin Roman, the director of the Charleston Animal Society organization.
“We’re going to do everything we can within the law to stop this, and then we’re going to go beyond and change our laws and make them stronger,” he told The Post and Courier of Charleston.

Dodson allegedly chained Caitlyn outside after wrapping her muzzle nine different times. However, the dog escaped and was later found in critical condition.

The tape cut off blood flow to her tongue. Veterinarians at the Animal Society unraveled it after an estimated 36 hours.
“I remember seeing the fear … in her eyes,” Roman said. “That was 36 hours of torture.”

Caitlyn is now safe and living happily and healthy with another family.
