Actor Idris Elba is now preparing to cover the August issue of Esquire Magazine and we can’t wait!

Speaking candidly with the popular publication, he gets personal when speaking about the death of his father, which was the force behind him making the choice to reevaluate his life.

“I got to a place where I wasn’t even living anymore,” he told the magazine. “I was becoming a robot with my work.”

Elba continues, “I have no fear of jumping out of burning cars or out of buildings on set, but in reality, I couldn’t run one hundred meters. I just felt out of touch with reality.”

The actor’s father, Winston Elba, passed away back in September of 2013 after a long battle with lung cancer.

“He was 72. Too young,” Elba said. “He had so much life in him. My old man wanted to do so much more. He just didn’t get a chance.”

Because of this tragic event, the ‘Luther’ actor says that he’d decided to officially take full control of his life, choosing roles that he would have normally declined in the beginning.

“‘Fear nothing,’” Elba added, referring to the life-changing advice he was given by his father. “Do what you want to do, but be educated and intelligent and confident about it.”

Mr. Elba would go on to win several Screen Actors Guild Awards in 2016, for his infamous role in ‘Beasts of No Nation,’ as well as ‘Luther.’ He was also nominated for a Golden Globe Award in that same year.

We absolutely love Idris Elba, as well as his amazing acting skills. We are hopeful that his father’s passing will continue to allow him to strive for greatness, because we all know that’s what his dad would have wanted.
