Henrietta Lacks cells were used over a million times without her knowledge

Henrietta Lacks was an African American woman whose cells were taken without her knowledge in 1951, and used over and over again for research in the medical field.  Scientists know her as HeLa, and what was done to her is known as the HeLa cell line.

In this brief clip, we learn more about this mysterious woman who was born to a poor family in Virginia.

Her descendants fought to get the rights to her cells and were successful in their endeavors.
