A lot of black people don’t know anything about The Great Migration. But at the turn of the century, many African Americans were in the south working agricultural jobs. But the south was dangerous. Southerners had not yet learned to respect African Americans as free human beings worthy of basic dignity and respect. Also, the jobs were low-paying and the work was difficult.

So, for about 50 years, millions of African Americans made the move to the north or the midwest. Chicago was one of the primary hubs to which many African Americans moved. The start of the big move was actually 1893, and it opened a host of new opportunities for blacks.

This video is a powerful display of our history and shows what black people have had to go through to get the opportunities that we have today.

So, ask yourself:  Have we taken advantage of those opportunities?

Have we respected our ancestors?

If not, then why not?  Maybe this video will give us something to think about
