Double Murderer OJ Simpson Could Be Getting Released From Jail Soon

After surviving nearly a decade behind bars, former NFL star and actor, OJ Simpson, could possibly be getting early release from prison this year.

Simpson found himself being jailed for his role in a 2008 robbery after stealing back his own sports memorabilia in a Las Vegas hotel room. There were two memorabilia dealers that Simpson claimed were illegally selling what he’d considered to be stolen property, which first belonged to him.

He brought along several friends, who were former NFL players, in hopes of getting back all of his goods, which were received in the height of his football career.

This robbery saw Simpson to a 33 year prison term.

Some feel that the harsh sentencing was simply in response to his earlier trial after he was acquitted in the murder of his ex-wife, Nicole Brown-Simpson, as well as her friend Ronald Goldman.

He was defended by Johnny Cochran, the late Civil Lawyer who was considered to be a metaphorical giant in his field of work and this is one of the reasons as to why his trial was labeled as “the trial of the century,” which consisted of a circus show of media outlets and memoirs that came from the jury, lawyers and anyone else that had any connection to the case.

The trial is also linked to Cochran’s famous line, “If the glove doesn’t fit, you must acquit.”

Thousands of people across the country were outraged that Simpson was found not guilty of a double murder, however, the Black community happily rejoiced that they were finally able to get over the white judicial system legally.

This was around the same time that several LAPD officers were found not guilty of nearly beating Rodney King to death, coming right behind of riots that broke out across the United States in major cities from Los Angeles to Atlanta.

Simpson was later found reliable for the deaths of his two victims in 1997 after a civil suit was filed and he was also ordered to pay upward in the amount of $33.5 M to the families.

Simpson will be up for parole in July of this year, however, a hearing date still has yet to be confirmed.

So, what are your thoughts on this news? Do you think it’s about time that they let “The Juice” out of jail? Or should he stay in there a little longer?
