Bill Maher Now Apologizes for His Recent Use of the N-Word

Comedian and television host Bill Maher may have just found himself in some hot water after some of his most recent comments, which seemed to upset thousands of black folks via Twitter.

He has been known to openly speak about racism, religion, politics and so much more, however, some believe that Mr. Maher went a little too far during one of his most recent episodes of ‘Real Time with Bill Maher.’

During his interview with Sen. Ben Sasse (R-Nebraska), Maher surprisingly referred to himself as a “house n-gger.”

“Adults dress up for Halloween, they don’t do that in Nebraska?” Maher asked.
“It’s frowned upon,” Sasse replied. “We don’t do that quite as much.”
“I gotta get to Nebraska more,” Maher said.
“You’re welcome; we’d love to have you work in the fields with us,” Sasse joked.
“Work in the fields,” Maher scoffed. “Senator, I’m a house nigger.”

The audience froze in disbelief and some even moaned. Maher attempted to clean up his comments by saying, “It was just a joke.” A few audience members laughed, however, others did not.

Many believe that comedians should have the freedom to cross as many lines as they’d wish, without fear of repercussion, however, context is also very important. Maher failed to consider the fact that racism and slavery are what continue to disrupt the peace, happiness and contentment of the Black lives that exist today.

But, it’s clear that Maher is going to learn from his actions. Once Twitter got ahold of him, social media users went as far as requesting that his show be taken off HBO.

He has since apologized.

So, what are your thoughts on this news? Think Maher’s show should be taken off television? Or should he get one more chance?
