Bi-Racial Singer Belives Being Bi-Racial Is Why She’s Underrated

When you have grown up with the same name as singer Tinashe, you do know that it doesn’t take a brainsurgeon to know what race or ethnicity you might be, however, the songwriter, dancer and musician is now taking it upon herself to argue that there are lots of us that don’t completely embrace her for her “blackness” as a mixed-race woman, though she does consider herself to be an African American girl.

It was one of the most controversial statements that were made by Tinashe in her recent interview with The Guardian  when she’d spoken on the state of her career, which seemed promising in the beginning after much success from her first single, “2 On.”

However, things are now extremely stagnant, given that she still has yet to drop her long-awaited sophomore album, ‘Joyride.’

Though things don’t seem to be going the way that Tinashe always thought that they would, she does admit that she is maintaining a positive attitude, no matter what happens.

“However long it takes, I know I will get to my end goal.”

Tinashe also argued:

There are hundreds of [male] rappers that all look the same, that sound the same, but if you’re a black woman, you’re either Beyoncé or Rihanna. It’s very, very strange.

Does she have a point? I mean, if you think about what she’s saying, there are lots of black female artists that never make it to the top, though they are just as talented, if not more, than entertainers Beyoncé, Rihanna, and Nicki Minaj.

So, why do you think that there are so many black women that are underrated or overlooked in the music industry? And why do you think Tinashe is one of them?

Comment your thoughts below and tell us if you think she has a point.
